Is it a good time to be a coach? Or is it the worst?
Record rates of inflation. Cost of living crisis. More coaches than ever entering the market. Are these conditions creating the worst time to become a coach?
It’s a valid line of questioning if you’re considering changing careers.
Because times are a-changin. But not for the worse.
I believe the changes we see are a result of the market maturing.
10 years ago coaching was a (relatively) new field with not a lot of options. If you knew what a coach was (and many didn’t) then your options were either corporate coaches or therapists. There weren’t many shades in between.
Many of the clients who found me around this time just kind of fell into work with me, often for lack of awareness and lack of other choices. Sounds great, but it actually slowed me down.
Building up a business of less-than-ideal clients resulted in a version of work that I was not jazzed for. Going to work became a drag. This wasn’t the reason I had changed careers! Within 12 months I had earned 120K (and replaced my income as a pharmacist) but I had to burn the business down and start over (again).
Maturation of the market means today, people have choice.
Most people know what a coach is, and there is a smorgasbord of coaching types to choose from. They don’t fall into bed with the first practitioner they find.
Today modern savvy shoppers hunt down the perfect-fit coach. They do their research. They verify before they buy.
For us as practitioners, this is excellent news.
There are more shoppers than ever buying.
The demand for this work keeps growing and growing.
The coaching industry worldwide is exploding with a market size of $5.34 billion – expected to grow to $6.25 billion in 2024.
But if we want to be part of this marketplace we need to double down on our unique zone of genius.
It’s no longer enough to raise your hand and say “I’m a coach, I’m here to help!” 🙋♀️
You need to be clear about the unique and brilliant magic you’re here to weave with your clients.
Want to… support medical professionals navigate burnout?
Want to… help mothers re-spark their creativity?
Want to… work with women of South East Asian descent claiming their pleasure?
Want to… champion pleasure for women who are awash with grief?
Want to… coach embodied entrepreneurs to fine-tune their copywriting?
These are all actual examples of zones-of-genius coaches.
These practitioners have honed their skills to produce reproducible magic in their sessions. Their skills as a practitioner are dialed in ✅
But they’ve also done something MORE.
They’ve thoroughly examined their embodied experiences, intersecting mastery, their politics, their passions and married it with their skills to create a zone of genius that is like no other.
I believe there is no such thing as competition in a maturing marketplace. Because no one else can ever do YOU.
There can be one hundred million coaches with a coaching session on offer. This doesn’t bother me.
Because I know, no one else is here to bring the exact blend of:
🍒Passions
🍒Politics
🍒Lived experience
🍒Intersection mastery
🍒Coaching skills
🍒Resonance that I possess
^^^ This is what today’s savvy shopper is looking for.
They don’t want some generic shirt 👕
They are looking for just the right piece. Organic-fabric, sustainably manufactured, something that will wash and wear well (preferably without ironing), in the cut that flatters their body shape in just the right places.
AND they are happy to pay for it. To make an investment that will last.
Now…
It can feel EDGY AF to see yourself as the type of practitioner who might bring an utterly unique zone of genius to the marketplace.
AND IT IS.
It takes big-ovary energy to say “I’m going to change careers, and I’m going to do it in a way that steps right into fucking mastery.”
It’s what separates the just-another-coach from the serious players.
Mastery of your zone of genius requires you’ve GONE THERE. Into your depth, into your edges, into your hesitations of ‘Can I bring this’ and ‘What am I even here to bring?!?’.
These are rites of passage explorations for zone of genius coaches.
Mastery of your zone of genius is not a one-and-done experience.
We’re constantly lifting the glass ceiling on the quota of brilliance we can channel through our work.
For this to happen, we need tools and practices that support our personal mastery (and all the bumps along the road) to blossom. Hands down for me the tools I use are the same ones I use with my clients – feminine embodiment. No surprises there.
These practices are what have helped me see, claim, and express my zone of genius. And I still have a waaaay to go. But I’m committed to it.
So if I’m asked the question… is this the worst time ever to become a coach?
My thoughts are… It’s actually the BEST time.
If you want to lift the glass ceiling beyond heights you thought possible, into a version of yourself so brilliant, even you have to get used to her. Then there has never been a better time to step into a career as a coach & bring your zone of genius to the world.
That’s what I’m here for.

First and foremost FECC is one of the most incredible and powerful personal journeys I’ve ever been on.
I felt so held and supported which allowed me to dive to depths that I had never been able to go before.
As a result of FECC not only have I been called to many parts of the life I desired but also become the authentic, powerful, inspired coach I craved. This is not just a course – it’s a personal journey that allows you to leave as a very powerful coach. I highly recommend it to any woman who is ready to step into her true authentic self.
